OUTLOOK (will update as needed)

From the National Weather Service - NWS Huntsville & Atlanta (10/31/2023)  - Special Weather Statement issued October 31 at 3:55AM EDT by NWS Peachtree City GA

Overview -  FIRE WEATHER WATCH & FREEZE WARNING

Key Messages:

  • OVERVIEW

A low pressure system will produce strong wind gusts (not associated with thunderstorms) tonight through Tuesday morning followed by a threat for severe thunderstorms on Tuesday (mainly in the afternoon and evening). The flooding threat is very low. Please see the briefing packet attached for more detailed information.

    DETAILS

    • Tonight through Tuesday morning: Strong, non-thunderstorm wind gusts of 35-45 mph are expected across portions of north Georgia with the strongest wind gusts expected along the mountain ridgelines tonight. As a result, a Wind Advisory will go into effect at 7 PM tonight.
    • Tuesday (primarily afternoon and evening): There is a level 1 out of 5 risk for severe thunderstorms across central Georgia and much of north Georgia. Hazards will include isolated wind gusts of 60 mph and a brief, low-intensity tornado.
  • What about rainfall? Forecasted rainfall totals range from 0.50 to 2.00 inches tonight through Wednesday morning with the highest totals in the mountainous terrain of north Georgia. The flooding threat is very low given forecasted rainfall totals and the current drought conditions.
